The Los Angeles Dodgers are an American professional baseball team based in Los Angeles. The Dodgers compete in Major League Baseball as a member club of the National League West division. The team was established in Brooklyn back in 1883, where it entered the National League in 1890 as the Brooklyn Bridegrooms and took on several other names before finally settling on the name Dodgers in 1932. The Dodgers have always made history, ever since they came into being. The Dodgers made history by breaking the baseball color line in 1947 with the debut of Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play in the Major Leagues since 1884. The Dodgers faced huge criticism for it, but Jackie went on to make history as he proved to be one of the best players in their history. After 68 seasons in Brooklyn, Dodgers owner and president Walter O'Malley relocated the franchise to Los Angeles before the 1958 season, where it has been ever since.
